PERISCOPE (Pilot European Regional Interventions for Smart Childhood Obesity Prevention in Early Age) is aimed at challenging the increase of child obesity in 3 European countries: Italy, Denmark and Poland.
Project actions are the following:
- To collect information on
o parental feeding style toward their children; parents' beliefs and behaviours contributing to the children's good health or obesity development.
o beliefs, needs, and expectations of teachers and children about their role in order to achieve good health. Information on the children's habits on food, TV watching, and physical activity. - To investigate the appropriateness of kindergarten meals in terms of nutritional value and contents using indicators for healthy eating.
- To hold a European workshop to analyse indoor and outdoor environment of kindergarten and its conduciveness to physical activity promotion (PA) / acting as a barrier to PA promotion.
- To provide nutritional education for parents and teachers with a special focus on eating habits modification techniques.
- To develop recommendations and guidelines on how to work with policies including the aspect of making them an important dynamic tool.
- To carry out interventions in selected kindergartens concerning nutrition and physical activity for the purpose of preventing childhood obesity.
- To disseminate project results to families, kindergartens, the scientific community and the public at large.
- To coordinate project partners and evaluate project achievements.
